Meet Star (Jude Demorest), a tough-as-nails young woman who came up in the foster care system and decides one day to take control of her destiny. Star tracks down her sister, Simone (Brittany O’Grady), and her Instagram bestie, Alexandria (Ryan Destiny), and together the trio journeys to Atlanta with the hope of becoming music superstars.

Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Lee Daniels – creator and executive producer of broadcast’s No. 1 series, “Empire” – partners with Tom Donaghy (“The Whole Truth”) to pull back the curtain on music’s gritty and dark reality in “Star.” Featuring a soundtrack of original music and stunning music performances, “Star” is an emotionally powerful drama that follows three talented singers–running from their pasts and desperate for a new start–with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cut-throat music business. However, reality soon dawns on the girls’ fantasies, and they start to learn that ambition often comes at a cost.

Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award, Grammy Award and Golden Globe Award winner Queen Latifah (“Bessie,” “Bringing Down The House”) stars as Carlotta, a surrogate mother to the young crew that also includes Cotton (Amiyah Scott). Emmy Award nominee Benjamin Bratt (“24: Live Another Day,” “Law & Order”) plays Jahil, a down-on-his-luck talent agent looking to revitalize his career, who’s taken a certain interest in Star. The series also features guest stars Grammy Award winner Lenny Kravitz (“Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “The Hunger Games”), supermodel/actress Naomi Campbell (Empire) and Grammy Award-nominated musician and actor Tyrese Gibson (“2 Fast 2 Furious and The Fast and Furious series 5-8”).

With so many amazing actors and actresses the show went through the roof on Fox’s top show charts. It even passed “Empire” before the second episode aired. People couldn’t get enough of the show.

“Star” shows the way life is lived in Georgia, creating a more realistic and relatable connection. Showing the struggle of living in a low income neighborhood, the girls go through protests, police brutality, and murder. Trust me this is no regular music show, this show is full of betrayal, hope, the worst kinds of love and great music to go with everything. The show does contain real life issues like teen rape, police brutality, false conviction, and other triggering topics. These three teens go through so much that it’s hard to forget that they are only seventeen years old. The “Star” album with all the music from the show is available on iTunes and Soundcloud, so go check it out. The show’s season finale ended strong, but it’s on you to see what happened and you won’t believe how it ends.
